In development
You spent years together.
All you kept was a handle.
Buddy Recall turns that handle back into a person. Tell it who you were and who you're looking for, then let it watch. Nothing opens until you both say that's them.
Find. Reconnect. Play again.
@thornwake
- β Handle: Kestrel
- β Realm: Zul'jin
- β Faction: Alliance
- β Years: 2008β2012 overlap
Strong match β 3 of 4 align. Differs on years: they played 2010β2012.
The problem
Server merged. Guild broke up.
Everybody scattered.
You had a name, a realm, and four years of raid nights. Then the guild fell apart, the realm got merged into another one, and the only thing you kept was a handle you're not completely sure you're spelling right. Every other way of finding people assumes you know their real name. You never did.
How it works
Three steps, and the third one is theirs
-
Say who you were
Register an identity: the handle you played under, the game, where you played, roughly when. You can add as many as you need β one per game, per era, per character name.
I was Β· Kestrel Β· World of Warcraft Β· Zul'jin Β· Alliance Β· 2008β2012 -
Say who you're looking for
The same shape, pointed outward. The handle is the needle β everything else corroborates it, ranks the result, and explains why it surfaced.
Looking for Β· vikingSeer Β· World of Warcraft Β· Illidan Β· 2010β2012 -
Both of you say βthat's themβ
The matcher works in the background and posts what it finds. A card only becomes a conversation when both people accept it. Either of you can decline, silently.
β you accepted Β· β they accepted β conversation opens
Both directions
Every match tells you which way it came
A card is hard to read if you can't tell which way it came β whether your search found them, or theirs found you. So it says which, outright, every time.
π You were looking for
A search you filed found somebody. The card leads with the handle you typed, so you know which of your searches finally paid off.
π‘ Someone remembers your
Somebody else's search found you. You didn't do anything β an identity you registered was sitting there being findable, which is the whole point of registering it.
Matching runs both ways on every pair. A half-remembered spelling on your side can still be rescued by their sharper memory of you.
Reading a match
The card shows its work
No black-box score. Every match lists what lined up and what didn't, because you are the one with the actual memories.
- β Realm: Zul'jin
Exact agreement
You both named the same thing. Server merges and renames are resolved first, so a realm that got folded into another one in 2017 still matches what you remember calling it.
- β Years: 2008β2012 overlap
Close, not exact
Near enough to be worth showing, honest about the gap. Fuzzy handle matching lives here too β nobody remembers whether it was vikingSeer or VikingSear.
Why it isn't creepy
Nobody can browse you
Most reconnection apps are a directory you scroll. This one isn't, deliberately. Contact exists only through a match, and a match exists only because someone registered a memory specific enough to be found. A vague search never clears the bar, so it never reaches anyone at all.
- NOfeed to scrollThere is no directory and no people search. If a query isn't specific enough to be right, it doesn't reach a human being.
- NOcontact before you both agreeA pending match cannot message you. Declining is silent β the other side is never told they were turned down.
- NOreal names or phone numbersA username and some old game handles. Your legal name isn't asked for and has nowhere to go.
- NOhandle shown until you acceptA pending match sees your username and nothing else. The name you actually played under is disclosed when you decide it is β so a vague identity fishing for matches learns nothing.
- NOphoto uploads, everAvatars are a fixed set of icons and colours. Nothing to upload means nothing to leak and nothing to moderate.
- NOread receiptsYou get an unread badge on your own conversations. The other person never learns when, or whether, you read theirs.
Your Discord, Battle.net, PSN and Xbox handles are optional, and they stay invisible until you have both accepted each other. Disconnect later and they go straight back to hidden.
The app
What it looks like
A single screen holds your timeline and whatever the matcher has turned up. Pending matches and open conversations stay in separate places, because deciding and talking are different jobs.

Buddy Recall is still being built. There's nothing to sign up for yet β when there's something to download, it will be on this page.
